Hintergrund

The Mulung Initiative was founded five years ago by Indonesian Olyvia Jasso. She was born and grew up on the island of Ambon, which is part of the Moluccas. Since her childhood, she has witnessed the increasing pollution of the island, especially the beaches. A key experience was visiting a natural tourist attraction in Ambon, which quickly became polluted after it was opened to tourists. This increased her concern for the preservation of nature so much that she began collecting plastic and motivating others to do the same. So in 2019 she founded the Mulung Initiative.

The work of the Mulung Initiative is aimed primarily at young people. It actively invites young Ambonese people from various social backgrounds to join in cleaning up the island. What once began as an initiative by a single student has now developed into a proper organization with a board, members and several hundred volunteers. The initiative regularly visits educational institutions and companies to raise awareness and attract more people to the project and the collection campaigns.

Why the Mulung Initiative

In recent years, mybacs® has already supported other initiatives via CleanHub, such as the plastic fishermen around Mr. Ravi in Indonesia. This year's project focuses primarily on educating local people to strengthen their understanding of plastic pollution and how to deal with it sensitively. This work is in line with mybacs®'s mission to educate in order to make smarter decisions.

Wie es weitergeht

Our donation will support the Mulung Initiative in one of its major plastic collection campaigns. Important materials such as collection bags, gloves, food and training materials will be provided for a group of around 50 people so that the plastic collection campaign can be a complete success.
